News: Principal of Hutton’s educational unit indicates school will pay CXC late fees.

Students at Huttons educational unit should know today whether they will be allowed to sit the CSEC exams for which they have paid. The school's principal Neville Hutton is to sign an agreement with the overseas examinations council, to pay some 4 million dollars in late fees. But what happened to the money in the first place? "A theft has occurred at the school." Were the words of Neville Hutton, principal of Hutton's examination unit, after being asked what happened to the money students paid to sit their CXCs. Mr. Hutton refused to be interviewed on camera, saying his lawyer has advised against it but he claims that someone at the school stole the students' money, and that the police are now investigating. But for that to have occurred, students would have had to have paid the exam fees directly to the school. At least one student disputes that.

Ms. Fraser, a student, along with a handful of other students, visited the Overseas Examination Council Wednesday trying to get answer after first hearing about the issue on the news, and after no formal communication from the school in days. But despite the students' claim that they paid at the bank, Mr. Hutton insists there were some students who paid at the school, and some persons at the school who accepted the money, despite the fact that it was against procedure.  Those persons, he claims, stole the money. Whatever really happened, the issue for Hutton’s students is will they be allowed to sit the exams? Mr. Hutton says the school has agreed to accept the responsibility and will commit to pay some 4 million dollars in late fees. The OEC has confirmed that an agreement with the school will be finalized Thursday. The next step will then be to submit the names of students to CXC by March 15.
