News: JALPA representatives press forward with plans to start a local airline.

Could there be a new airline in the making for Jamaica by Jamaicans? That's the signal being given in stronger tones than before, by the Jamaican Airline Pilots Association- JALPA. In what some may consider the association's concession of defeat in its bid to acquire Air Jamaica, the group still believes there should be a Jamaican airline. Soaring to new heights but in a different direction this time seems to be the strategy of the Jamaican Airline Pilots Association. With a number of possibilities and the government rigid in its stance to sell Air Jamaica to Caribbean Airlines, clear skies for a new airline are on the horizon. For JALPA, driving the economy cannot happen without an air transportation system that can make significant contributions. The association lists Jamaica’s ideal geographical position with the advent of increasing visa and security restrictions in and throughout the US and UK, as well as growing interest from Asia and Europe for Jamaica to not only be a hub but to  provide  a market for transport. But what would make this new airline successful and not encounter the same turbulence that Air Jamaica did? A set of values, sufficient capital and an airline driven by the market are just some necessities. So it may not be Air Jamaica after all but for JALPA the new airline will still be Jamaican.
