The Finsac enquiry is set for further delays after Tuesday morning's decision for a full hearing to be held on May 25 into whether justice Boyd Carey is suitable to sit as its chairman. Chief justice Zaila McCalla presided over the hearing prompted by claims brought by four persons seeking to oust the retired court of appeal judge from sitting on the commission. The claimants are former finance minister, Dr. Omar Davies, former financial secretary Shirley Tyndall, former managing director of Finsac Patrick Hylton, and the Jamaican Redevelopment Foundation, which bought the Finsac bad debts. They contend Mr. Carey had a debt that was bought by Finsac, and there was a debt owed by Bev Carey and Associates in which he had an interest. That debt was reportedly transferred to Finsac. The claimants, asked Justice Carey to step down but he refused, stating he had no debt with Finsac.
