Wii shortages to last into holiday season...

According to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime, there's a good chance that Wii shortages could last well into the holiday season and beyond. Yes, we're talking about a full year of product shortages. At this point, we're well beyond demand being so insane that they can't possibly keep the systems on the shelves and into corporate ineptitude territory. And with the inevitable success of the boring-looking-yet-appealing-to-your-mom Wii Fit, demand probably won't die down anytime soon.

Sony to offer slimmer PSP to take on DS...

CULVER CITY, California (Reuters) - Sony Corp. (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) will launch a slimmer model of its PlayStation Portable handheld game player in September, in its latest attempt to ignite demand for its game hardware and compete better with Nintendo Co. Ltd. (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research).

Both Sony and Nintendo released their handheld gear, the PSP and DS, respectively, late in 2004, but sales of the PSP, which can play movies, music and games, have recently been outshined by the DS.

Capcom, the developer behind multiple treasured video game series such as Street Fighter and Resident Evil, is forecasting yet another substantial price cut for Sony's Playstation 3. Said Capcom Chief Financial Officer Kazuhiko Abe to reporters:

"...the price has been cut once and it is likely to be cut again towards the end of the year. I expect the (PS3's) installed base to grow gradually."

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is a good entry point to the series, but if you've played any recent Mortal Kombat game, you'll notice that most of this stuff has been recycled.

The Good: Every Mortal Kombat character, big and small, is here in some form; interesting single-player story mode; supports the classic controller.

The Bad: Reuses a lot of stuff from the previous MK games; custom fatality system lacks personality; not a ton of differentiation among the game's 60+ fighters.

The success of Tomb Raider: Anniversary is twofold; it does well by the memory of the original Tomb Raider, and also makes a dynamic action adventure game that's fun to play in 2007.

The Good: Strikes a balance between providing an homage and delivering new, exciting content; acrobatic action adventure gameplay is challenging without being frustrating; lara looks great and moves effortlessly; adrenaline dodge makes combat more exciting.

The Bad: Lots of jaggy edges on PS2 version; doesn't take many chances with the tomb raider formula.
