The contractor general is to investigate the auction of used vehicles by the customs department, an exercise which sparked heated arguments over the past two days. The probe has been sparked by complaints by disgruntled bidders who have been telling CVM the auction was riddled with irregularities.

News: Police move to prevent reprisals following quadruple killing in a Portmore club.

A tense calm hangs over the Cockburn Gardens community in St Andrew where the police have put measures in place to avert any possible reprisal for the death of area leader Ricardo Thomas also known as Bully. Bully was among four persons killed at the “Live Wire" enterprise better known as La Roose night club along the Port Henderson main road in Portmore, St. Catherine Wednesday night.

News: Government still mum on timeline for teachers to receive outstanding monies.

Teachers still eager to hear about their outstanding monies did not get a definitive word when the minister addressed their governing teachers association Thursday, the JTA. It was an agreement arrived at in April this year where the JTA accepted the government's offer to make part of the outstanding retroactive payments in June.

Sports: JAAA forced to make changes to squad for CAC athletics championships.

The Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association was forced to make some 13 changes to the original squad named for the 2009 CAC senior athletics championships in Havana Cuba starting on Friday. The squad of 34 athletes was cut to 32 as a number of big names opted to make themselves unavailable, among them Dorian Scott, Vonnette Dixon, Shevon Stoddard, Aldwyn Sappleton and Anniesha McLaughlin.

News: Police officer held during major fraud crackdown at Constant Spring tax office.

A police man is one of two men being held following a raid by members of the flying squad at the island revenue department in constant spring, St. Andrew yesterday. The operation was carried out as part of investigations into a car stealing ring. A large number of fictitious and forged documents along with cash, credit cards, photographs and other personal items were discovered during the raid.

News: Search for an elderly couple ends with the discovery of their partially decomposed remains in Trelawny.

There's been a tragic end to the search for a missing elderly white couple from Spot Valley St. James. The partially decomposed bodies of Thomas and Marjoke Chambers were found in the Willshire area bordering Trelawny and St. James. It was a group of fishermen who first stumbled upon the body of 61 year old Marjoke Chambers near the seaside.

News: Three JDF soldiers hospitalized after helicopter crash at Up Park camp.

A board of inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of yesterday afternoon's accident which resulted in a helicopter crashing at Up Park camp. According to information from the Jamaica Defence Force about 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, a Bell 412 EP helicopter which was carrying out a training mission crashed.

News: Controversy at vehicle auction at Queens warehouse for a second straight day.

For the second day in a row a motor vehicle auction at the Queen's warehouse ended prematurely. It was “going once going twice gone” were the opportunities of bidders to access motor vehicles that were being auctioned at the Queen's warehouse.

Two days before their opening match against Canada at the Concacaf gold cup, Jamaica’s senior footballers are fine tuning their preparations in California. This is the 7th gold cup appearance for the Reggae Boyz and they are pleased with the preparation so far.

News: Judge rules Stephen Fray is able to stand trial for attempted hijacking.

July 13 has been set as the trial date for Stephen Fray, the 21 year old who is accused of attempting to hijack a Canjet flight in April. This comes as a judge has ruled that Fray is mentally capable to stand trial. After two months and two psychiatric reports Stephen Fray is set to stand trial for attempted hijacking at the western regional gun court.
